The main research goal of the "Photonics and Photophysics of Nanomaterials" (PHOTO2N) team is to address the fundamental optical properties and photonic applications of novel nanomaterials, and of nanocomposites and superstructures built from them. These systems are interrogated by specialized techniques capable of tracking down their photo-physical and -chemical response with time resolutions down to the femtosecond scale, and diffraction-limited spatial resolutions.

Our studies focus on a variety of optical nanomaterials, such as carbon nanodots, nanographenes, quantum dots, porous nanomaterials, metal nanoclusters. We also investigate the emerging photophysical properties of larger composites built from individual nano-building blocks, such as all-carbon nanocomposites or mesoscopic superstructures. Furthermore, we explore photonic applications of these systems, such as dielectric microresonators, micro-lasers, random lasers, bioimaging agents.

PHOTO2N is part of the
LaBAM group.
